  • Flowers for García Lorca
  • cosas típicas de la rambla

Tonight my youngest and dearest daughter, Rosita the single, has wanted to work for the nicest florists of La Rambla
  • A ramblist lover
The poet Federico García Lorca (1898-1936) fell in love with Barcelona. And with La Rambla. His relationship with the painter Salvador Dalí was the excuse to visit Catalonia in 1925. The cultural life of a city that looked at Paris caused in Granada's artist an interest that he shared with the actress Margarita Xirgu or the writer Josep Mª de Sagarra. He premiered plays in the Teatre Goya and in the Teatre Principal, located in the lower part of La Rambla. He also exhibited his drawings in the nearby Dalmau Galleries. And, above all, he lived the night of Barcelona in very good company.
  • Finding inspiration
The Barcelona promenade was the meeting point of three important artists: García Lorca, the singer of copla Miguel de Molina and the lyricist Rafael de León. The poet premiered Yerma in the Teatre Principal and, after one of the functions, he met with them at the nearby Granja Oriente, located on the ground floor of the hotel of the same name. Between laughs and glances to the sailors who were walking down the sidewalk, they created the famous couplet called Ojos Verdes.
  • A loved poet
The generosity of Lorca won the esteem of the people from Barcelona. He carried out poetry readings at the University or at the Rambla de Catalunya, after which he said: "I was thrilled to the point that it took me a lot of work to start talking, I had a lump in my throat." As a playwright, he premiered Doña Rosita the Maiden, Yerma or Mariana Pineda. Don Perlimplín, in change, was not taken to scene. He apologized because his protagonist was the Great Cuckold. He acknowledged that the actors refused to play the role because of the prejudices that existed still.
